A good two months after his end at the 1st FC Nürnberg, Olaf Rebbe became managing director of Sport at the relegation -prone Bundesliga club Holstein Kiel. A “Sky” report can confirm the transfer market. The 46-year-old is said to replace Carsten Wehlmann, who has been in office since March 2024 and also took over the office of Vice President in July.
Update: In the afternoon, Holstein confirmed the obligation of Rebbes and replacement of Wehlmann: “Carsten Wehlmann had the challenging task of making Holstein Kiel in the best possible way for the Bundesliga. The fact that the team still has the chance to stay in the league shortly before the end of the season shows that he has succeeded in a strong league with more economically potent competitors. Nevertheless, we have been convinced that the club was convinced at this point to reorganize the sporting management, ”said CEO Dr. Stefan Tholund. Rebbe will start his new task on April 22nd.
Rebbe took over the post of the sports director in Nuremberg in April 2021, but had to go after the transfer window in winter, since according to sports director Joti Chatzialexiou there was “different views”. During its tenure, the club generated revenue of more than 61 million euros due to player sales, with access of over 25 million euros. A balance of 36 million euros is the largest transfer plus of all clubs that were second -class during this period. This season alone, the club sold professionals for just under 46 million euros, including Stefanos Tzimas (25 million, Brighton), Can Uzun (11 million, Frankfurt) and Finn Jeltsch (8 million, Stuttgart).
In the case of five games, the gap from Kiel to the relegation rank is four points, and the bottom of the end also has a worse goal difference. The saving bank is already eleven points away, so that the direct relegation could no longer be available on the coming matchday. With an impending descent, numerous professionals could leave the club, so that Rebbe may have to accompany a new building in the storks.
