The former HSV players Felix Magath and Richard Golz want to run for the club’s presidency. They announced this in a joint message on Thursday. Both submitted their candidacy for the office of retiring Marcell Jansen.

Magath wants to succeed Jansen at the membership meeting of the second division soccer team on June 21. The ex-international no longer competes. The Magath team includes ex-goalkeeper Golz another size of the club. The 56-year-old could become Vice President under Magath.

HSV icons apply to the presidential office

Magath, goal scorer in the 1-0 victory in the European Cup of the national champions in 1983, had repeatedly been associated with his heart club in the past. Most recently as a sports board before the club chose Stefan Kuntz as the successor to Jonas Boldt. Magath, who, of course, would also have a look at professional football in football after his player career as a manager, coach and sports board.

Golz was in 273 Bundesliga games in the HSV goal between 1987 and 1998. Then he was at SC Freiburg for eight years. After his active career, he worked in a personnel consultancy in the sports environment, and he also works on a voluntary work at the Hamburg Oberliga club Altona 93.

More candidates for Jansen succession At HSV

The Honorary Council Chairman Kai Esselsgroth and the entrepreneur Franck Ockens have confirmed their candidacy for the presidential office. Olympic champion Laura Ludwig, Papenfuß and the previous incumbent Bernd Wehmeyer include the applicants for the Vice-Job.
