After months of silence, the ARD has given another statement on the bursting of Thilo Mischke’s broken moderation debut at “TTT – Title, Theses, Temperaments” – and surprisingly speaks of its own internal failures. The public pressure after the controversial personnel decision has obviously had an effect: One now announced a profound conversion of the renowned cultural format.
Excitement around Thilo Mischke as a co-moderator-what had happened?
From February 2025, the journalist and author Thilo Mischke should actually be in front of the camera as the new co-moderator of “TTT”. But shortly after the announcement, old allegations against the 44-year-old became public. Above all, his book “In 80 women around the world” from 2010 was criticized as women hostile. The contents of the former travel report, in which Mischke writes about sexual encounters in a casual language, caused many doubts about its suitability for a cultural ARD figure.
At first the ARD held on to the decision before finally pulling back under the growing public pressure. Mischke himself showed himself outraged – he drew attention to possible controversy at an early stage, he emphasized in an interview with the “ZEIT”: “I pointed out which problem could be associated with it. It was not interested in anyone.”
“TTT” is reorganized
In the explanation now published, the ARD admits that the Causa Mischke has harmed its own reputation. “Errors have happened that should not have happened,” it says. In order to avoid similar situations in the future, the cooperation model of “TTT”, which has so far been changed by six ARD institutions, will be fundamentally changed.
From now on, the Mitteldeutsche Rundfunk (MDR) takes the lead – initially for two years. This is intended to centralize decision -making processes, responsibility more clearly and shorten communication channels. In the future, the MDR will also act as a central point of contact for public, media and internal committees.
In addition, the ARD announces to revise its internal standards. In the future, casting processes should run according to binding criteria that apply to all program houses. The goal: transparency, professionalism and a respectful way of dealing with topics and people involved.
The debate about Mischke was a wake -up call and can be read between the lines. While you used to focus on the model of federal diversity, you now want to act with more uniformity and responsibility. A admission that is not a matter of course in the ARD.
