There is a new dark cloud hanging above the Ukrainian refugee reception of Leon and Deborah in Dongen. The municipality took a decision on Tuesday stating that it is not allowed to live in the outbuilding. That means that the three adults and three children must leave the outbuilding by 8 May by 8 May. Initiator Leon Bronckers of the reception appeals against this decision.
At the beginning of last month, initiators Leon Bronckers and Deborah van der Meere had a small party to celebrate. The judge pushed the penalty of 2000 euros a week on the side that the municipality of Dongen had imposed the shelter. The municipality wanted to force the reception of 14 Ukrainians in this way to stop. According to the municipality, the daycare was not according to ‘the rules’.
Right
Leon and Deborah objected to this, but in anticipation of what would come out of this, they would have to cough up 2000 euros every week. The judge experienced short work and ruled that this penalty could only be imposed after a decision.
That decision has now come. The municipality allows living in the main building, but will investigate safety. Living in the outbuilding does not allow Dongen because the rules do not allow it. “Because it is not in the zoning plan,” Leon suspects.
The owner knows what he will do with his wife as soon as they are back from vacation where they charge their battery after a hectic time. “I’m going to object to the court.” He previously indicated that Dongen must substantiate why maintaining rules outweigh the liveability for refugees.
We previously took a look at Leon and Deborah’s shelter:
Sisser
Leon also has a plan B. “If it really can’t be otherwise, the six residents of the outbuilding can go to the main building. That is less comfortable for everyone, but it is possible.”
It is no coincidence that the municipality came up with the date of 8 May on which the residents have to leave the outbuilding. “That is six weeks after a resident gave birth there. You are not allowed to house mother and child in a different place within that time.” Leon no longer expects that this affair will end with a Sisser.
The municipality of Dongen prefers that all refugees from Ukraine are taken care of at a central location in the municipality.
