At this year’s Coachella Festival, the British electric rock band The Prodigy showed its late front man Keith Flint a special homage during her appearance on April 11th. Flint died on March 4, 2019 in aging 49 from suicide. The group continues to carry him in the heart.
During their performance of “Firestarter”, one of their greatest hits from 1996, they projected the bright outlines of Flint on stage as a laser animation. The animation moved synchronously to music, while excerpts from Keith Flints echoed vocals over the site. Keith Flint, known for his provocative look and his ecstatic stage presence, was the face of the band as a front man.
Keith Flint: Firest starter forever
A goosebumps production-and not the first time that The Prodigy honored her late colleagues in this way: Already at the Reading and Leeds Festival 2024, they had installed a similar homage.

And also away from the stage, Liam Howlett and Keith Palmer regularly commemorate their late bandmate – for example with personal words and pictures on X (formerly Twitter). Leeroy Thornhill, who was live keyboardist and dancer at The Prodigy from 1990 to 2000, also commented on Keith Flint, its suicide and the challenges of aging.
There is still no replacement for Keith Flint – and there will probably never be. Since his death, Liam Howlett and Maxim (Keith Palmer), who had previously appeared as a MC and co-front man, have been on stage as a duo. In addition to “Firestarter”, the band played more of their classics on the coachella, such as “Breathe”, “Omen” and “Smack My Bitch Up”.
More about The Prodigy
The Prodigy was founded in 1990 in Essex, England, and is one of the pioneers of the Big Beat-a genre that combines electronic music with punk energy and rock elements. With albums like The Fat of the Land (1997) they reached global fame and significantly shaped the rave scene of the 90s. After a short break during their career, they celebrated their comeback with the album Invaders must (2009).
But after her front man Keith Flint committed suicide in 2019, the future of the band and her creative course were initially in question. The Prodigy decided to continue – not despite, but because of Keith. Her appearances since then are not only concerts, but also a continuous homage to her late friend.
