MUrshidabad (India), Apr 14 (askanews) – music, traditional dances, rituals and colors. In India, the last day of the Bengali calendar with the Gajan feast, in honor of Shiva, one of the main deities of Hinduism, is celebrated.
Gajan or Shiva Gajon is celebrated every year especially in the Indian state of Western Bengal and Bangladesh: the ceremonies last about a week and culminate with what Bengali New Year is.
The devotees paint their face with red paint and try their hand at dance rituals with sticks with skulls to pay homage to the hadic god of destruction. The central themes of this party are satisfaction through pain, devotion and sacrifice. In fact, during the ceremonies the faithful also participate in extreme tests such as the racing on burning coal or do perforations on the skin.
