A seriously neglected cat was found in a barn in Waalwijk on Saturday evening. After a check by the vet it turned out that the kitten was mistreated: “It had an iron wire around her belly and a piece had been cut off.” The kitten has been treated and is now recovering, but it is not yet certain if she will make it.
The residents of the house next to the barn discovered the animal after their dog continued to bark in the direction of the barn. “Then they started searching extensively and eventually found this kitten, which was probably hiding here for three days,” says the manager of Dierenasiel Waalwijk, Angela Frijters.
Iron thread
When the vet checked the kitten on Sunday morning, he was shocked. “She had a deep wound on her stomach. The doctor also came across a thick iron wire, which was completely around her waist,” says the manager.
The thread was 14 centimeters thick, while the coat agent was 21 centimeters. “That has been in the way a lot, which caused deep wounds and the animal could hardly eat,” says Frijters. “We have put her on the drip to strengthen, because she is pretty malnourished and cannot keep herself warm.”
Declaration
The employees of the animal shelter are considerably affected by what they found. “It really comes in,” says Frijters. “Even if you have nothing to do with animals, then you don’t do this. We all became uncomfortable. It’s terrible.”
There is no trace of the owner of the cat. “She’s not chipped so we have no idea where she comes from. Because she is in such a weak state, we suspect that she could not have come from far,” says Frijters.
The animal shelter has reported the animal police and hopes that someone recognizes her.
