Nick Drake will soon hear new music – at least in a previously unpublished form. On July 25th, “The Making of Five Leaves Left” will be released. Because it is said to contain Rare Outtakes and previously unknown songs from the recording sessions of his debut album. The material comes from old mono listening coils, which document the history of “Five Leaves Left”. John Wood and Simon Heyworth took over the mastering.
The songs are presented on four slices
The project appears as a 4-CD and 4 LP box set, accompanied by a 60-page illustrated book, which gives insights into the background of the plate and the atmosphere of the recordings at that time. The first disc contains six early versions of songs, including early versions of “Mayfair“ and “Time has Told Me“. There are twelve pieces on the second CD – including five previously unheard of recordings from working with the bass player Danny Thompson. Disc three provides alternative versions of classics such as “Way to Blue“ And “Saturday Sun”. Finally, a reconstructed version of the album “Five Leaves Left” the end of how Nick Drake is said to have heard it completely for the first time.

Nick Drake recorded three albums: “Five Leaves Left”, “Bryter Layter” and “Pink Moon”. During his lifetime, however, the commercial success was largely denied and in his last years he was increasingly suffering from depression.
Nick Drake died of an overdose of antidepressants in 1974 at the age of only 26. A decade later, his music was rediscovered, especially by musicians like Rem or Norah Jones, who call him inspiration.
