In addition to the particularly high general special tariffs for China, US President Donald Trump has also ordered tariffs of 90 percent on low-value goods from the country-a tripling of the taxes for these articles. This emerges from a decree that the Republican signed on Tuesday evening (local time).
Originally, Trump wanted to take a value of 30 percent with a value of less than $ 800 (around 724 euros) from May 2. So far, such goods were excluded from tariffs. Thanks to this rule, Chinese online retailers delivered their products to the USA on the inside like Temu and Shein.
In the decree, the President also anchored the particularly high US special tariffs for China. In doing so, he replaced the initially planned 34 percent with tariffs of 84 percent. Trump had reacted to the counter tariffs announced by Beijing in the amount of 34 percent.
The United States had initially occupied 20 percent tariffs from China since January. Overall, the tariffs announced for China are now 104 percent.
China reacts with counter -tariffs
In response to other US tariffs of 50 percent, Beijing has announced to the same extent. The Chinese leadership said that the special tariffs on all US imports, which were initially created for 34 percent on all US imports are now to be 84 percent and come into force on Thursday.
The trade conflict of the two largest economies in the world thus reaches another escalation level. In the night of Wednesday at 0:01 a.m. local time, further special tariffs against goods from China, which are now a total of 104 percent, came into force. Compared to other countries that operate with the USA, China is affected by particularly high tariffs.
Other trading partners: affected inside
The US President wants to correct alleged trade weights with tariffs and shift production to the USA. At the same time, customs income should serve to at least partially counter -financed tax cuts promised in the election campaign.
At the same time, the new US special tariffs also came into force against many other countries on Wednesday. 20 percent apply to the EU, and even higher taxes are due for imports from other countries. With his aggressive customs policy, Trump spreads great uncertainty worldwide.
