The province of Drenthe and seven other provinces have sent a petition to the Lower House in which they call for a future -oriented policy in the field of plastic.

The provinces are opposed to the rapidly growing import of cheap new plastic from China, among others.

That makes it impossible for Dutch companies to compete in the field of recycling plastic and making alternatives from vegetable raw materials, they say.

The provinces call for a clear policy from the government. They also want a national standard for circular plastics, in anticipation of a European standard.
