At FC Barcelona, Marc-André Ter Stegen is pushing for his longed-for comeback. He has now revealed a secret in a podcast.
Marc-André Ter Stegen can now laugh again. The goalkeeper of FC Barcelona and Germany’s real number one has been in training since last week. Six months after his patella tendon tear in the right knee, Ter Stegen would like to play again as soon as possible.
He was “physically fit like never” and “full of energy”, said the 32-year-old in the picture podcast “Phrasemäher” and announced to his coach Hansi Flick: “If I master the stress and all parts of the team training, I will already pie the coach so that he knows that I am ready.”
In the “phrase mower” he also revealed that he had a hair transplant done. Ter Stegen: “At some point I just lost a few hair – like many men in their life – and was no longer so satisfied, and then I said: Okay, I would like to have the hairline a little different again, so I did it.” However, the whole thing has been six years ago, in 2019.
There had always been rumors about a transplant. So now the official confirmation. Marc-André ter Stegen denied that it had something to do with feeling more comfortable on the pitch to show even better lines: “No, it had nothing to do with football.”
Ter Stegen has been under contract with the Catalans for eleven years and has played 420 games since then. Only the Argentine world champion Lionel Messi, who is unlikely to do with 778 missions, came to more missions than foreigners for Barca.
Game number 421 will be a very special one for Ter Stegen, so much is already certain. He doesn’t have an “exact date” in his head yet, he says, but: “I’m hungry to play soon.”
