After his career end as a professional footballer in the coming summer, Simon Zoller will return to VfL Bochum in a new role. It is not yet certain of the task of the offensive player under June at FC St. Pauli.

“Since the full focus of the entire club in the coming weeks is valid for the big goal of relegation, we will only inform new function and the tasks associated with the season finale – also out of respect for our competitor in the fight for relegation, FC St. Pauli,” said the Bundesliga club.

“For me it has become physically and difficult to fight against it,” Zolle said in a video message via Instagram. His decision has to be “matured over the past few months”. He feels “happy” and “good”. Zoller switched from VfL Bochum to St. Pauli in the summer of 2023, but was only used five times for the Kiezkicker due to several injuries. He played his last game more than a year ago – on March 16, 2024 in Nuremberg (2-0).

Zoller became professional at Karlsruher SC in 2011 and also played for VfL Osnabrück, 1. FC Kaiserslautern, 1. FC Köln, VfL Bochum and FC St. Pauli. He was on the pitch 114 times in the Bundesliga, 123 times in the 2nd league and 36 times in the 3rd division. He completed most of the games for Bochum (109), his highest market value of 3 million euros in 2014 in Kaiserslautern and two years later in Cologne.
