John Degenkolb is one of the experienced German cycling stars. He also wanted to take part in Paris-Roubaix. Nothing becomes of it.
He had gotten a lot, but 126 kilometers before the finish was ended by the German cyclist John Degenkolb on the tour of the Flanders. The 36-year-old fell like other drivers and stayed with pain in the ditch.
Degenkolbs Team Picnic Postnl announced on Sunday evening that the German had to pause longer. Participation in the classic Paris-Roubaix is therefore not possible.
Team doctor Camiel Aldershof said: “He will undergo an operation on the wrist, then a rehabilitation follows. The schedules can often change, but we expect that he cannot take part in competitions for two months.”
During his fall, Degenkolb had contracted fractures on the collarbone, elbow and wrist. Aldershof said that Degenkolb was “opened on the floor with some force”.
