A special story is hidden behind the liberation of the German prisoner of war camp Oberlangen. The Polish women who are held there cannot believe their ears and eyes when they discover who their liberators are.
After Polish soldiers liberated Coevorden in April 1945, part of them goes through Emmen to Ter Apel. There, somewhere on the border between Drenthe, Groningen and Germany, a lieutenant makes a special discovery. He can hardly hide his excitement, according to a report.
“Superior, we are messing around here. A few kilometers away the Germans hold hundreds of Polish women trapped.”
