“I’ve had sheep for 40 years, but I have never experienced this, never!” Farmer Thijs-Jan tells about it with a big smile. Last Thursday a five-lambs were born in his stable in Nieuw-Roden.
He was surprised when he suddenly saw a sheep walking with a lamb this week. When he took the mother sheep apart, it turned out that there was still a lamb on the way. Not one, but even a third and a fourth. “I thought: that is almost impossible! And to my surprise, even a fifth arrived.”
Thijs-Jan calls it very special, because normally sheep get about two to three lambs, five almost never occur.
“They are all alive and kicking! A mystery, but also very beautiful. You usually have to feed a lamb with a bottle, but so far everything has been fine,” he says.
Even with Mother’s sheep everything is super, but she will be spoiled well in the near future with some extra chunks and hay.
