After Mainz 05’s mistake, Eintracht Frankfurt had the chance to expand the lead. But in Bremen there was no victory for Hesse, but a defeat.

Werder Bremen made Eintracht Frankfurt in a completely deserved manner in the Bundesliga top game. Thanks to a tactical masterpiece and a good exploitation of opportunities, the North Germans prevailed 2-0 against the third in the table. The Scotsman Oliver Burke scored the Bremen leadership in the 28th minute.

The harmless Frankfurters came out of the cabin after a weak first round, but there were hardly any concrete chances. Werder, on the other hand, did better and followed by Romano Schmid in the final phase (82nd). Frankfurt missed the chance to get air in the fight for the Champions League. The Hesse remain third, but the lead over Mainz has melted by one point and in Leipzig in fifth place by three. Gladbach can even follow on Sunday.

Werder coach Ole Werner sent the same starting eleven into the game like a week earlier at 3-0 at Holstein Kiel. And from the start, the Bremen tries to put the Frankfurt pressure under pressure. But Eintracht was initially certain on the defensive.

The guests were looking for the offensive in front of 42,100 spectators in the sold -out Weser Stadium after about ten minutes and earned an overweight. But the team of coach Dino Toppmöller acted tooless to put Werder with problems.

If there were goal scenes, then from the Bremern. A header by Jens Stage (11th) after the second corner kick, a volley shot by Marco Friedl (14th) from 18 meters and a header from Stage (25th) to the crossbar after a shot by Romano Schmid were the best Werder chances. Hugo Ekitiké (20th) had the only noteworthy Frankfurt opportunity with his shot past the Bremen goal.

In view of the hosts’ opportunity plus, the lead by Burke’s third goal of the season was definitely deserved. The Scotsman had been neglected by the harmony defense after a corner kick by Schmid and almost freely converted the ball with head.

Werder became braver and better with the lead in the back. That continued after the break. Just two minutes after the restart, Marvin Ducksch missed the 2-0 when he lifted the ball next to the Eintracht goal after a mistake by the Frankfurt Pharell Namdi Collins.

After that, even afterwards, the Bremen played promising situations with quick counterattacks. Mitchell Weiser (79th) missed the best option. Otherwise, the last pass did not arrive too often. The Frankfurters continued to have an optical overweight, but made too little of it. Especially since the Werder cover around captain Friedl was mostly safe. When Schmid (84.) then scored for the Bremen, Werder’s coach Werner’s first victory against Eintracht was perfect.
