In ‘t Gooi, Petra Vosters is one of the contact points for residents who think they have a queen or a starting litter in their home. Residents can contact her. In the radio program NH Gooi the lunch club Do you hear what you can do best.
What to do?
The very first thing Vosters advises is to make sure that it is actually an Asian hornet. “Compared to other wasps, the Asian hornet is more red -brown, wears ‘yellow socks’ and has a yellow band around its abdomen.” If you are still in doubt, you can send Vosters photos and leave a notification at Waarnemingen.nl. Vosters: “You don’t want to remove bee nest or other hornet species.”
The queens wake up during this period of hibernation and start building starting litters. “They are small and have a structure of paper maché.” Later in the summer the colony moves to the treetops, where they can make nests the size of a skippy ball.
Be there early
It is therefore important that you are early, now that the litters are small and easier to remove. When it is certain that it is about this invasive exotic, the volunteers can remove the litter with queen for free.
