According to the Media reports, Frank Baumann will report the new sports director at FC Schalke 04. The former managing director of SV Werder Bremen is supposed to start the job in summer. The 49-year-old had left the SVW after the 2023/24 season.
Final talks are running and the final coordination of the committees is still missing, reports “Sky”. At the latest at the start of the training at the end of June, Baumann should officially start, but according to the “kicker” he is already working in the background. According to reports, Baumann prevailed against Jochen Sauer, Junior Head of FC Bayern. Talks are also said to have been held with Fredi Bobic (top candidate at Dinamo Zagreb) and Jörg Schmadtke.
Baumann was active at Werder from 1999 and 2009 as a player at Werder and had moved into the official role in the club half a year after his end of his career. From 2010 he held different positions, from 2016 until his departure he worked as a sports manager. Over this period, the Hanseates generated a transfer plus of EUR 32.3 million – expenditure of EUR 110.3 million is compared to income of EUR 142.5 million. In the meantime (2021) Werder had relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga, but returned directly to the upper house.
