One can smile about the statement that something has fallen out of time or take it seriously in the literal sense. Actually, there is never anything to say when albums lean on the past or refer to a certain way of making music. For the parent generation of today’s Spotifyer: Inside, for example, unnecessaryness, unconditional complacence, played a certain role. And: music is music, quality is quality and tradition is a tradition.
Now that they have worked together in the past, the American Brandi Carlile, originally coming from the country area, have come together for an album – and who Believes in Angels? is not really classified in time. Carlile, who also excelled as a guest musician at UA Soundgarden and would have liked to replace the deceased singer of the band, Chris Cornell, played with her great vocal skills, just like Elton, the keyboard of the skill. Both are hiked in songwriting and, let’s say, in the area of great emotions, fat concept and opulent instrumentation. Each of the two is allowed to go.
At the beginning, “The Rose of Laura Nyro” is worried, as if Elton was looking back in the Yellow Brick Road of the beginning seventies. With “You Without Me”, Carlile brings the songwriter-AM-piano-90, and together with the title, the two create a Elton-John classic via duet. Why not, it triggered radio experiences from childhood, it is very difficult to locate next to the relevant music topics of the present. If you want to indulge in Feelings from Bombast and Piano, you don’t have anything of this album.
