Markus Eisenbichler ended his successful career with flights over 220 meters in Planica. With the (attack) funny Bavaria, the DSV eagles have lost one of their model jumpers. Eisenbichler is preparing the situation in German ski jumping – he also buttoned up a ski jumping icon.
“It is not easy,” commented Markus Eisenbichler in an interview with “Sport1” the situation of the German ski jumper: “Stephan Leyhe and I are gone. Of course we have Wellinger, Paschke, Geiger, Raimund, who are in the top of the world. We have a big gap in the youth area.”
He noticed this when he jumped in the second-class Continental Cup, the 34-year-old said. “That I am the best overall with very few missions, of course that worries me,” said Eisenbichler. However, he was “sure that the DSV will find a solution”.
This is bitter. For years, no DSV talent has made its breakthrough on a large stage. Springer like Philipp Raimund and Constantin Schmid made it into the World Cup – but nothing more. The coals get season after season the established athletes like Andreas Wellinger and Karl Geiger from the fire – and before that for years also Eisenbichler.
The six-time world champion has recently seen through that he could imagine a coaching career. First of all, however, he has to gain a distance “so that I have my head to really tackle the coaching job. As a trainer, you shouldn’t be too emotional – and not too critical either. And I know how I am in training,” he said.
Ski jumping: Eisenbichler criticizes Ahonen
At the moment he would not do a favor as a trainer. When the time comes, he would “like to work in the youth area and create a basis for me. In this area it is simply exciting, you can still shape the jumpers,” said Eisenbichler.
The freshly baked ski jumping pensioner also commented on the Norwegian suit fraud at the World Cup in Trondheim. “This whole scandal is really a hammer. I was shocked and angry,” emphasized Eisenbichler. Team Norge was punished, however: “I forgave them, for me it was eaten.”
What Eisenbichler cannot understand: ex-jumpers, who are now granting cheating at their time such as Janne Ahonen.
“I love this sport and really enjoyed doing it. Janne Ahonen also loved it and liked to do it,” said Bayer: “Why do you have to follow up again and pull the sport into the dirt? Every athlete has already reached the border. But to the limit of what is permitted, i.e. within the rules. Every athlete knows that and everyone is fine with it.”
