Almost transfer 2012/13

The fact that the BVB was still good for surprises on the transfer market despite the two championships in 2011 and 2012, not only prove Oliver Kirch or Chris Löwe’s obligations at that time. The Dortmund also looked around internationally in niche markets, previously brought no-names like Shinji Kagawa or Lucas Barrios and formed them into world-famous footballers. Christian Marrugo could have happened, but the Colombian international did not take the risk.
The 39 -year -old veteran of Real Cartagena looked in a detailed interview with “As Colombia“Back to his long career and revealed for the first time that he rejected a request from the BVB. At the end of the 2012 season, he was flirting at Deportes Tolima in his home country with a change abroad.” I had been there for five years, “explained Marrugo, who was intensively overturned by the CF Pachuca from Mexico at the time.
Marrugo stated that he was observed longer. In a 5-0 win against Cúcuta Deportivo, in which the creative playmaker met twice, Pachuca’s responsible persons were personally on site in October 2012. “You spoke to me, you explained the project to me,” said Marrugo. When the negotiations were “well advanced”, “came an offer from Borussia Dortmund and they told me and I couldn’t believe it. Back then I was 27 years old, I didn’t believe in it.”
Marrugo was shouting back before negotiations with BVB
The long -time club boss Gabriel Camargo therefore had to show him the offer. “He told me that it was time to negotiate while Pachuca was ready to pay everything. At that time I also wanted to play abroad and I thought that I could end up with negotiations without anything. So I went to Pachuca,” said Marrugo in the direction of Dortmund, where in winter 2013 Nuri Şahin returned from Real Madrid.
A little later on the edge of a friendly game with Colombia, Marrugo also learned from national team colleague Adrián Ramos, who was to switch to Borussia in the summer of a friendly game with Colombia a little later. “Adriancho said to me: Marru, they asked me over there about you,” recalled the eleven -time international. “But well, it wasn’t my fate.” It was not the time to wait. Mexican football was on the rise and only four hours away from home. There were also good salaries there.
However, the time in Mexico was not successful. Two days after his decision for Pachuca in November, he injured himself, but kept his future club to him, which helped him. “Financially it was very good, but not so much in terms of football. I arrived injured and was supposed to play as a tens, but in the draft Daniel Ludueña was brought in, who is an idol there.” Coach Gabriel Caballero therefore saw him more in a defensive midfield, where he also had a look in competition with Héctor Herrera. “I knew it would be difficult for me.”

So after half a year it went on loan to the Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz, where Marrugo established itself as a regular, but also only stayed for half a year. “It was a team that fought against the descent. I had an argument with the president and had to go back.” The quick return to Colombia followed, where Marrugo – apart from two more seasons in Mexico at the Puebla FC – is still active. He ends his career without resentment on the missed BVB chance in the 2nd division at Real Cartagena. “All of this is a harmony, the city has united with the team and that is the most important thing. We have a challenge, namely promoting the team and we are working on it.”
