In a nature reserve on Havenweg in Budel-Dorplein, on the border between Brabant and Limburg, a very large fire raged in the night from Wednesday to Thursday. The fire brigade pulled out with large equipment, but had great difficulty fighting the fire due to the strong wind. The site was also difficult to pass.
The first report of the nature fire arrived on Wednesday evening around a quarter past ten. In the first instance, the Brabant-Zuidoost safety region spoke in a piece of thirty by thirty meters that was on fire. But the fire quickly struck and spread rapidly. That is why it was scaled up to a very large fire.
Due to a shortage of extinguishing water, a water tank was called from Weert in Limburg. There was also a system on the spot that can lead water over distance via a hose. A drone was used to better map the situation on the spot.
Second fire brigade peloton
Shortly before midnight it seemed that an extra second platoon with six fire extinguishers was needed to fight the immense fire. In the end, the bet turned out not to be necessary and this platoon, with fire brigades from the area, remained standby at the barracks in Budel.
Around a quarter to two, the fire was given by master. The fire has been extinguished in many places, but there are still various ‘hotspots’ in the bottom. The re -extinguishing will take a few hours. It is not yet clear how large the area is that has been destroyed.
