The relationship between Bayer Leverkusen and Jonas Hofmann seems to come to an end. The former DFB professional probably has no future with the “Werkelf”.
Jonas Hofmann and Bayer Leverkusen: What still seemed promising at the beginning is now only a misunderstanding. The 32-year-old was just 241 minutes for his team on the field in this Bundesliga season (six games). Finally, he sat on the bench twice for 90 minutes.
From his sporting situation, the professional may now have consequences: Before the home game against Bochum (3-1) Last Friday, according to “Sport Bild” there was a conversation between Hofmann’s consultant Marco Gutfleisch and Bayer sports director Simon Rolfes. Hofmann would apparently like to play more. One wish that Bayer cannot currently fulfill him is said. The consequence: Hofmann and his consultant are now looking for a new club. Because despite an ongoing contract by 2027, Leverkusen would not put any stones in the way of the 32-year-old.
Hofmann switched from Borussia Mönchengladbach to Bayer in 2023. Previously, he had also played in Mainz, Dortmund and Gladbach. In his first season, Hofmann in Leverkusen knew how to convince, played a total of 46 competitive games and collected 20 scorer points (eight goals, twelve assists). At the end of the season Leverkusen became German champion and won the DFB Cup. In the meantime, however, the Heidelberg native is only a statist in the team of coach Xabi Alonso.
Hofmann is now also outside in the national team. He has been running for the DFB team 23 times since 2020. The last time he was nominated in November 2023. Most recently, he was used again a month earlier in the 2-2 test game against Mexico in the USA. In 2022 he had still belonged to the German contingent at the World Cup in Qatar. He was not taken into account at the European Championship in Germany in 2024.
