Area manager Birgit Bauer-Schick said: “We celebrated success together, but also had sporty challenging phases. In joint discussions we decided that we will not continue our cooperation after this season.”

Merk emphasized that the “focus of the final phase of the season”, which she wanted to “successfully deny” with full energy “, now applies. The Freiburg women are fifth four game days before the end, celebrated four victories in the last five league games (with a draw).

The 35-year-old has been on the sidelines of the Freiburg women since the 2022/23 season. In her first season, she led the team to the final of the DFB Cup. At the start of the current season, she paused because of her pregnancy and subsequent maternity protection. Interimated, Nico Schneck took over before Merk returned to the coaching chair at the start of the second half of the season in early January.

Previously, the native of Ravensburg was head coach at the Swiss first division club GC Zurich and assistant coach at VfL Wolfsburg.
