Daniel Tschofenig put his stamp on the past season in ski jumping. The Austrian now spoke about his success, the mental challenge and the suit scandal by the Norwegian team.
“Wining the ball is really cool. After this season it is an absolute bonus. I would never have expected it in advance that it is now a reality is just incredible,” said Daniel Tschofenig in an interview with the “Kleine Zeitung”.
At the same time, the 23-year-old also revealed that the end of the season was a mental challenge for him in ski jumping. “Before, and after the World Cup, I really felt a lot of pressure, it has only really become aware of it now. I just didn’t want to be the idiot that loses the ball in the end,” said the ÖSV jumper.
Tschofenig continues: “Then it didn’t go so exhilarating for a while, but before Planica it was clear that I have to attack and nothing else. That was exactly the right motto.”
Tschofenig celebrates Double in ski jumping
The Austrian finally made his triumph in the overall World Cup perfect while ski flying in Planica in Slovenian. Tschofenig ended the season with 1805 points. This was followed by his teammates Jan Hörl (1652) and Stefan Kraft (1290).
The big ball in ski jumping has “a very, very high” status for him, “because in the end nobody expected it,” said Tschofenig.
“This overall victory and the four -hill tour are more important to me than anything. It is of course awesome that I made it with a young age and hopefully I will succeed again in the future,” said the high -flyer of winter.
Suit scandal “A shot in your own knee”
The expired ski jumping season was overshadowed by the suit scandal in the Norwegian team at the Nordic Ski World Cup.
“Of course it wasn’t horny what you did. It was a shot in your own knee from you,” Tschofenig commented on the scandal.
“We have excited about it but did not let it get down, but have remained calmly. If they are supposed to do what they want, we don’t care. We did our thing-and how you can see with success,” said the ski jumping superstar.
