March 29 – 23:53 – MILAN

If we see it on the starting line of the Vendé Globe 2028, Francesca Clapcich will still write a historical page for our sail: the 37 -year -old Triestina would be the Italian first to take part in the world around the world in solitary non -stop, the Everest of the sail where in the last edition – which ended between mid -January and the early March – only five girls were presented at the start. It is a very serious challenge that of the Clapcich, the most complete Italian sailor: he took part in two Olympics, participated in two regattas around the world (in 2017 the “Volvo Ocean Race” and in 2023 “The Ocean Race”, winning it aboard 11th Hour Racing) and Corso the first America’s Female Cup on American Magic. Now the choice to focus on the next edition of the Vendée Globe, still supported by 11th Hour Racing, a team that puts environmental sustainability at the center of each activity, inspiring initiatives for the protection of the oceans.

preparation

The first step was the purchase of Malizia Seaexplorer, the Imoca 60 class boat, with which the German Boris Herrmann has just completed around the world in 12th place. The Clapcich will establish the base of the campaign in Lorient, France, flanked by the same Malizia team that will serve as a technical partner for the new campaign “We have chosen it because they know the boat perfectly and will be able to prepare me the best for a total immersion in the world of the ocean sail alone on an imocation. Furthermore, the team dedicates itself with passion for the search for solutions for the health of the oceans and our planet, Which perfectly aligns with our vision “, explains Francesca, who until mid -2025 will continue to be Upwind by Merconcept skipper, the first entirely feminine crew to participate in the Ocean Fifty Series, the championship on the 15 -meter ocean multiscophers, where in 2024 ninth arrived.

the qualifications

The Clapcich will take possession of the 60 feet from the regatta, Malizia-Seaexplorer, towards the end of 2025 to start the long qualifying process for the Vendée Globe, participating for the next three years in the Globe Series Imocas that will allow it to earn points by participating in solo, double and complete crew. The first regatta as the skipper of his new boat will be the “Transat Café l’Or” which will start from Le Havre, in France, on October 26, 2025, with Fort-de-French Meta, in the Caribbean. Triestina will announce the co-skipper for the “Transat Café L’Or” (previously it was the “Transat Jacques Vabre”) in the coming months. The competitive program will not distract Francesca from the “Believe, Belong, Achieve” campaign, designed to promote equality and inclusion in the sail. “If my parents, my coaches and teachers had not believed in me as they did during my growth, I would not be where I am today, to announce my participation in the Vendée Globe. I want to make sure that everyone has the same opportunities”, underlines the sailor.
