700,000 people on opening weekend of first Oktoberfest since pandemic | Abroad

Clemens Baumgärtner, the event’s lead organizer, said he was pleased with the opening and hopes for better weather over the next two weeks.

Thousands of people in traditional Bavarian attire took to the streets of Munich for the annual traditional costume parade (Trachtenzug). Not only groups from all over Germany but also from other countries, as far as the United States and Canada, took part in the procession. Many carried umbrellas, others wore traditional headgear to match their costume.

Despite the miserable weather, tens of thousands of people showed up on the streets of Munich to watch the costume parade.
