Since 1959, Beselare has been keeping her legendary witch stories alive with a procession that only takes off every two years, but always becomes a folk festival. This year’s edition was entirely devoted to animals that play a special role in the witch stories. Large spiders, sinister crows, a meter -long hose and even a wild boar adorned the procession. “Animals have been connected to witchcraft for centuries, and we wanted to highlight that extra,” says Lieven Dejonckheere, who took control for the first time this year.
