3rd league: Zwickau stops descent against Bayreuth

Status: 22.08.2022 21:32

With their second win of the season after the last three defeats, FSV Zwickau has left the relegation zone of the 3rd football league. At the end of the fifth day of play, coach Joe Enochs’ team defeated newly promoted SpVgg Bayreuth 2-0 (2-0).

In front of 5,741 spectators in the GGZ Arena, Ronny König (10th) and Dominic Baumann (25th) scored a quick and deserved 2-0 lead. With six points now, Zwickau is in twelfth place in the table before the away game next Saturday at SC Verl.

New signing Kusic with starting eleven debut

After the 5-0 debacle against Elversberg, Enochs made four changes to the starting XI. New signing Filip Kusic made his debut for West Saxons in defense, Max Jansen also started in midfield, with the 39-year-old König and Baumann attacking.

Zwickau strikers prove goal instincts

And with the two strikers, Enochs was spot on. First, in his 250th game in the 3rd division, König extended a free-kick from Patrick König from seven yards into the promoted team’s goal. Fifteen minutes later, Baumann, who had previously missed a good opportunity to make it 2-0, headed the ball into the goal after Bayreuth goalkeeper Sebastian Kolbe was only able to parry a shot from Can Coskun.

Red card stop Bayreuth rebellion

After the change of sides, Bayreuth, who had been passive in the first half, came into play better and had two chances in the 64th minute through Alexander Nollenberger. But the red card against Bayreuth’s Dennis Lippert a minute later dashed hopes of winning a point, even if the guests continued to look for a goal. Zwickau switched to counterplay, but missed opportunities sloppily.
