A lot of fight and passion, but in the end no points: SV Wehen Wiesbaden was surprisingly defeated by FC Erzgebirge Aue for a long time outnumbered – a setback on the intended path to the 2nd division.

SV Wehen Wiesbaden slipped up in the promotion race to the 2nd Bundesliga. The second in league three lost on Friday evening against FC Erzgebirge Aue, who were threatened with relegation, 1-2 (0-1). This ended the series of eight games without defeat.

Early red card for Gürleyen

The hosts got off to a bad start. After 14 minutes, defender Ahmet Gürleyen saw the red card for an emergency brake after knocking over Omar Sijaric in front of the edge of the box. Wehen Wiesbaden then concentrated on a compact defense and missed his only chance to score in the first half through striker Ivan Prtajin (20′).

The guests took a remarkable lead: Marco Schikora scored with a powerful long-range shot from the corner of the penalty area (34′). Not only because of that guest coach Pavel Dotchev had reason to be happy. He experienced his 300th third division game as a coach in Wiesbaden.

Goal comes too late

After the break, the SVWW played more courageously and had chances. But the Saxons scored to make it 2-0 through Antonio Jonjic (65′). Florian Carstens only managed to get the goal back (74th). For Aue it was the first win in six games at Hessen.

In the next league game, SVWW has to play VfL Osnabrück on February 25th.
