3rd league: setback for newly promoted Ulm

Third division promoted SSV Ulm has suffered a setback in its fight to make it to the 2nd Bundesliga.

The third-place team only managed a 1-1 draw (0-1) at VfB Lübeck on Saturday, but was pleased to note that their rivals SV Sandhausen also gave away two points in the 1-1 draw (1-0) against Halleschen FC.

The top duo of league leader Jahn Regensburg (49 points) and pursuer Dynamo Dresden (46), who are already well ahead, have a huge chance on Sunday. SSV Jahn is a guest at MSV Duisburg, which is in acute danger of relegation, while Dynamo is challenged at FC Ingolstadt.

Niklas Kastenhofer (25th) scored with a header for Lübeck against Ulm, Philipp Maier (70th) saved at least one point for the guests. Sandhausen missed some great opportunities against Halle, so in the end Patrick Greil’s goal (31st) wasn’t enough to increase the pressure on Ulm. Because Jonas Nietfeld (90th + 1) equalized with a penalty kick.

Rot-Weiss Essen won a wild game against bottom team SC Freiburg II thanks to two late goals 4:3 (1:2) and is now fourth ahead of Sandhausen. 1860 Munich collected a point to stay in the league with a 0-0 draw at Erzgebirge Aue.
