3rd league: harmless Dresdeners lose in second division relegated Sandhausen

Dynamo Dresden suffered their first defeat in the second game of the season. In the duel of the promotion favorites, Markus Anfang’s team had to admit defeat at second division relegated SV Sandhausen.

Dynamo Dresden has suffered the first small setback. On the 2nd match day, the Saxons lost 0:1 at SV Sandhausen despite the larger share of the game. While Dresden found it extremely difficult to create chances, the home side used their only big chance in the first half for the goal of the day.

Dresden conceded a goal out of nowhere

SGD coach Markus Anfang trusted the same starting eleven as in the opening win against Arminia Bielefeld two weeks ago. Newcomer Tom Berger first took a seat on the bench. Dynamo had a little more play in the early stages, often trying to get through the middle, but couldn’t find any gaps in the Sandhauser defensive network. The SGD defense was able to jointly clarify the first dangerous attack by the home side (16th). Shortly thereafter, the lead for Sandhausen developed from a Dresden free kick. SVS keeper Nikolai Rehnen hit it off precisely at Christoph Ehrlich, who initially defended the ball and then took Abu-Bekir El-Zein on the flank. He in turn moved to the center, let Dennis Borkowski out and hit the left corner from 18 meters.

Dynamo shook himself briefly and then tried to quickly equalize. But it was always the same picture: either the crosses were too imprecise or the attempts – mostly from a distance – were blocked. So Dresden developed no real goal threat until the half-time whistle.

Dynamo also inaccurate in the second section

After the change of sides, Sandhausen was initially more active and repeatedly came into the dangerous zone in front of the Dresdner Tor. Ehlich could have fired from nine yards, but decided to dribble and lost the ball (52′). Dynamo had problems getting back into the game for a long time, the balls kept bouncing, the paths weren’t right. Beginning reacted with a triple change, brought Jonathan Meier, Manuel Schäffler and Jakob Lemmer (61st).

The SGD now took control of the game again and, as in the first round, mostly tried to get through the center and in front of the opposing goal. However, it was a standard that eventually created a goal threat. Paul Will extended a corner to the far post where Tom Zimmerschied droppedkicked it. The ball went just over the box (68th). As a result, Dresden tried to continue to play forward, but found no further gaps. So did substitute Lemmer, who after a nice one-on-one action against Dynamo’s ex-captain Tim Knipping passed from the goal line into the middle, but found no takers (88th). Finally, Sandhausen defended the narrow lead and thus the victory until the final whistle.
