If Matthias Ginter plays for SC Freiburg against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, and nothing speaks against it, he will slide into the top 100 footballers with the most Bundesliga missions.

Marcus Bark

Only the players who are still active in the highest German league are already in fourth place. The goalkeepers Manuel Neuer and Oliver Baumann rank in front of him. The only field player who has more missions than ginter is Thomas Müller with 496. Ginter will be on the pitch for the 375th time against his former club from Dortmund.

Three World championships, A mission

Matthias Ginter is the one who became world champion in 2014 without playing a minute. He was in the squad at the 2018 World Cup, but was not used again. Four years later in Qatar, he made his debut at a World Cup. That was in the last preliminary round game against Costa Rica, after that it was over.

The good bank presser

Ginter always fell into the role of the well -being of well -being. He is one of these soccer players who do their work without making a lot of lifting. Ginter speaks little, and if quietly, he does not wear unusual clothes or extravagant hairstyles. The boulevard makes a bow around ginter, and ginter around the boulevard.

First game, first goal, first win

From time to time it cannot be prevented from writing headlines. Ginter experiences this on January 21, 2012. It is the day of his first Bundesliga game and it is the day when Christian Streich is on the sidelines for the first time as head coach of SC Freiburg.

Freiburg is the bottom of the table, FC Augsburg is the penultimate in the Dreisam Stadium. In the 70th minute, Streich changes ginter that turned 18 two days ago, a native of Freiburg who was trained in the youth performance center of the sports club.

Matthias Ginter’s Bundesliga career is 18 minutes old when he heads the 1-0. The SC wins, holds the class at the end of the season. Ginter takes place in the team, in central midfield and in central defense, becomes one of the most hopeful talents in the Bundesliga.

World champion and move to Dortmund

Two years later he is at the World Cup in the national team’s squad, and after the tournament in Brazil, he takes up his work at Borussia Dortmund, which pays around ten million euros for him, under coach Jürgen Klopp.

In May 2017, Ginter under coach Thomas Tuchel wins the DFB Cup with BVB, his only national title.

Thoughts of the end of the career after an assassination attempt

A good month earlier he just missed an attack, maybe even death. A man lit bombs when the BVB team bus was on the way to a game in the Champions League. Most metal pins fly past the bus, physically only Marc Bartra is injured.

Ginter also says in tears in the process in which the perpetrator is sentenced to 14 years in prison. In the days and weeks after the attack, he thought of ending his career. His move to Borussia Mönchengladbach had nothing to do with the assassination attempt.

Important people at Borussia Dortmund see it differently. Ginter needed an air change, perhaps also because the BVB still receives the same team hotel, in the parking lot of which the bombs exploded.

Never red, never yellow-red, never-locked yellow

For the Borussia of the Lower Rhine, Ginter played 154 times in the Bundesliga, once more than previously for SC Freiburg, who will get him back from Mönchengladbach in 2022.

Around 500 games in the Bundesliga, DFB Cup and European Cup are available for Matthias Ginter at the three clubs, he never saw a yellow-red card, never a red card. He was never closed for five yellow cards.

Nine games with Freiburg against BVB, nine defeats

What he has never managed to win with the SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga against Borussia Dortmund. Even worse: all nine games were lost.

On Saturday (from 3:20 p.m. in the radio report and from 6 p.m. in sections in the sports show), in its 375th Bundesliga game, that should change. Matthias Ginter’s winning goal followed by traction and the fifth yellow card due – then a Matthias Ginter would no longer come past the boulevard.
