De Boeck started his football career at second division club FC Boom. He then also played for KV Mechelen and Anderlecht, where he became captain and became champion three times. He also played 34 times for the Belgian national team and was active in both the 1998 and 2002 World Cup. Due to several serious knee injuries, he stopped playing football in 2005.

As a trainer, he was first an assistant at RSC Anderlecht. He then went on to work as head coach at Cercle Brugge, Germinal Beerschot, VVV-Venlo, Beveren, Mouscron, KV Kortrijk, Lokeren and again Kortrijk.

Period in De Koel

His period in Venlo was not a sporting success. He started the 2011/12 season hoping to avoid relegation with the Limburgers, but resigned at the beginning of December after a disappointing 7-0 defeat to Heracles Almelo.

De Boeck lost both his parents in a short time this year. At the funeral of father Louis (80), who had been struggling with his health for a long time, mother Louisette collapsed with a brain hemorrhage.

De Boeck died surrounded by his family.
