The polar bears won their last game in the DEL before the Olympic break and extended the lead in the table.

On Sunday, the German champions won 3-1 (3-0, 0-1, 0-0) at EHC Red Bull Munich. The success was due to goals from the capital city by Frank Hördler, Marcel Noebels and Matt White as well as a strong performance by national goalkeeper Mathias Niederberger.

In front of empty seats in Munich’s Olympic Ice Stadium, both teams fought an intense, fast-paced duel right from the start. But only the polar bears used their chances consistently: Hördler scored from the blue line, Noebels after a solo effort. Barely two seconds before the first break, White extended his lead when the Berliners played with a majority for the first time.

After the restart, Henrik Haukeland replaced Danny aus den Birken in the hosts’ goal. Munich now increased the pressure significantly and were able to reduce the deficit with a goal from Jonathon Blum. In the final section, the capitals managed to make the game more balanced again.

Thanks to concentrated defensive work and a sovereign performance by Niederberger, the polar bears brought the lead over time.
