Rot-Weiss Essen collected on matchday 31 of the 3rd league Big Points in the fight against relegation. Against a decimated Hansa Rostock, RWE took a 2-1 home win on Sunday (April 6th, 2025) (1: 1).
Cedric Harenbrock initially brought Hansa in the lead (9th), Ahmet Arslan (22nd, 80th/FE) turned the game for Essen. Rostock was outnumbered more than an hour after Alexander Rossipal saw the red card for an emergency brake in the 28th minute.
In the table, RWE makes a jump and has as a table. Now three points ahead of the relegation places. For RWE he was the first victory after three unsuccessful games in a row. For Rostock, however, the defeat is a setback in the promotion battle. The FCH slips eight.
Harenbrock meets with a hoe
The initial phase was characterized by many standards. It was almost a corner that led to the Rostock lead. The second ball landed in the back room near Rossipal. The ex-Essen Harenbrock steered its spacer shot into the goal of the former colleagues (8th).
RWE had a hard time aggressively, it was tried, but initially did not take a clear chance. On the other hand, Adrien Lebeau missed the 2-0 (18th) from eleven meters.
The equalization was correspondingly surprising. After a Rostock coordination error in midfield, Arslan grabbed the ball, dribbled into the penalty area, left a rustock with a hook and hit the lower left corner (22nd).
Rossipal has to go from the field
Six minutes later, RWE was suddenly outnumbered because Rostock flew his own corner around his ears. Arslan clarified the ball and sent Ramien Safi and Rossipal into the running duel. The Rostock pulled the loser and only knew how to help himself via a foul. Because he was the last man, referee Martin Speckner pulled the red card (28th).
RWE was the team’s tone. After 33 minutes, however, it was almost a Rostock who took care of the Essen leadership. Hansa keeper Benjamin Uphoff defused the racket. Shortly before the break, Uphoff was back on the spot when he fisted a dangerous flank from Arslan from the five -meter room (45.+4).
RWE dominant, but harmless
The second half started, as the first ended: with dominant Essen. The problem, however, was that RWE did not bring any dangerous ends against deep Rostockers. Lucas Brumme (49th) and Kaito Müzua (65th) at least brought balls to the Rostock goal, but did not pose any problems.
In the 69th minute, the Manuel Wintzheimer gave its comeback for RWE after a long injury break. And in the 78th minute he also had the lead on his foot, but he also failed on Uphoff.
Arslan hits the point
Salvation for RWE only came a minute later. And again referee Speckner came into focus. Because a shot from Müzua jumped on the outstretched arm of the Rostock Ahmet Gürleyen in the penalty area, Speckner immediately pointed to the penalty point. Arslan did not take the chance and hit the right lower corner with a placed shot (80th).
Rostock once again invested in the game in the final minutes, but was no longer close to the equalization.
In the 3rd division there is now an English week. Rot-white food is facing a difficult task and must compete on Wednesday (09/09/2025, 7 p.m.) in the second place in the table Cottbus. Hansa Rostock also receives VfL Osnabrück.
