SV Wehen Wiesbaden has extended the contract of captain Sascha Mockenhaupt. The second division team did not provide any information about the new term. The 32-year-old central defender came to SVWW from Norway from FK Bodø/Glimt at the beginning of 2017 and is therefore the longest-serving player in the squad. Mockenhaupt, who played 20 games in the current season but was no longer in the starting line-up, has made 264 appearances (six goals) for the Hessians to date.

“Sascha is still a very important player who embodies the SVWW like no other. He has been a core part of our team for many years and makes an important contribution both on and off the field as captain and part of the team council. The extension underlines the stability and continuity we are striving for in the club,” said sporting director Paul Fernie.

Mockenhaupt added: “I am very happy that at the age of 32 I still have the ability to help the team. For me there was never any question of moving to another club. That’s why I’m very happy that the club also sees the added value in me staying. So far I have been promoted to the second division twice with SVWW. Now my big goal is to help us establish ourselves in this league.”
