2nd league: HSV beats Heidenheim, KSC wins against FCN

Draw at SCP vs. Dresden

The high form at Hamburger SV in the 2nd Bundesliga continues. The North Germans defeated 1. FC Heidenheim on Saturday 2-0 (0-0) and are one point behind promotion favorite Werder Bremen. A week earlier, Hamburg had outclassed Darmstadt 98, the leaders at the time, 5-0. The third win in a row was provided by Sonny Kittel with two goals (63rd/78th/foulelfmeter) in front of 10,000 spectators in the Volksparkstadion.

HSV coach Tim Walter asked his team not to rest on their laurels after the thrashing of Darmstadt. Instead, he demanded intense work. This was necessary because the high pressing of the strong Heidenheimers did not allow the hosts to roll as hoped. Bakery Jatta had the greatest chance in the balanced game, whose shot from a tight angle was saved by Heidenheim goalkeeper Kevin Müller (21′). The Swabians’ plan to gain possession of the ball aggressively and aggressively worked for a long time. Midfielder Tobias Mohr had a great chance on a counterattack, but his lob over HSV goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes was knocked out by Miro Muheim (48′).

In the second period, the Heidenheimer came more and more in front of the HSV goal because the hosts were losing their strength. But in this offensive phase of the guests, the Hamburg leadership fell. Kittel used the penalty after a foul on Jatta to score his sixth goal of the season and decide the game.

Double strike after change of sides: Karlsruher SC wins against 1. FC Nürnberg

Karlsruher SC has celebrated its first win since returning from the compulsory Corona break. With the 4-1 (1-1) win over 1. FC Nürnberg on Saturday, Baden took an important step towards staying up in the league. The lead over the relegation place is initially nine points, but the competition could follow suit on Sunday. Although the Franconians showed a reaction to the 0: 5 against bottom FC Ingolstadt, they suffered another setback in the fight for promotion.

When Johannes Geis made it 0-1, Karlsruhe keeper Marius Gersbeck made a momentous positional error (29′), but a brace from Philipp Hofmann (39’/59′), a goal from Werder-Bremen loaner Benjamin Goller (55′) and a goal a converted penalty from Marvin Wanitzek (90th) put KSC on course.

The game started fast, but in front of 9265 spectators, both teams initially lacked the power to penetrate. When conceding, Gersbeck speculated on a cross from Geis. However, the free-kick taker decided on a direct attempt and took the KSC goalkeeper by surprise. The hosts had to collect themselves for a moment, but then made it 1-1 thanks to a turning shot by Hofmann. The Karlsruhers took the momentum into the second half and were rewarded with the outstanding performances of Goller and Hofmann.

Goalless draw: SC Paderborn and Dynamo Dresden share points

SC Paderborn and Dynamo Dresden are still waiting for their dry spells to end. After the 0-0 draw on Saturday, the East Westphalians have not had a home win since November 6th of last year (2-1 against Ingolstadt), promoted Dynamo is still without a sense of achievement after the fourth league game in 2022. Paderborn is in the upper half of the table with 32 points, Dresden is fighting for relegation with 25 points.

While Paderborn’s coach Lukas Kwasniok made three changes to the starting eleven compared to the 2-2 draw at FC St. Pauli, Dynamo coach Alexander Schmidt reacted to the 4-1 loss to Hansa Rostock with four new players in the starting line-up. The hosts, who have already suffered six home defeats, struggled in front of 3,614 spectators. Florent Muslija (35th minute) and Philipp Klement (39th/41st) only had good chances just before the break. There were hardly any offensive actions in the second half either, both teams were very secure on the defensive.
