Status: 05/06/2023 3:25 p.m

In the 2nd Bundesliga, Hansa Rostock has extended its own winning streak against an unimaginative SSV Jahn Regensburg – and has its eye on staying up.

On Saturday (May 6th, 2023) the Ostsee-Klub secured the third success in a row. Coach Alois Schwartz’s team beat Regensburg 2-0 (1-0). The goals for Rostock, which is now in 13th place (34 points), were scored by Kai Pröger (34th) and John Verhoek (79th).

Jahn Regensburg, on the other hand, has been waiting for a win for seven games now and, as second to last in the table (28 points), is still deep in the relegation zone.

Rostock safe at the back, with a bit of luck at the front

The game kept the promise of a real basement duel. It was sometimes rough to the point, playful finesse remained in short supply at first. The first shot on goal was fired after more than 30 minutes by Pröger – and it was right in. Indicative of the playing quality: The ball had previously come into the danger zone as an arc lamp and Pröger’s strike colleague Lukas Hinterseer had hit an air hole.

Jahn kept up quite well and had a slight advantage in possession. But little or nothing worked at the front. The long balls to attacker Prince Owusu easily defended the wide awake Rostock back three.

Regensburg harmless over long distances

In the second half, Regensburg inevitably had to increase the pace and risk at some point. The first approach came from a cross from Scott Kennedy, Kaan Caliskaner’s header flew over the bar (55′). Otherwise, little was going on with coach Mersad Selimbegovic’s team.

Rostock continued to make the better impression and was more determined. So Verhoek initially missed the 2-0 in a missed big chance (62nd), but a little later he still scored with his head. Jahn goalkeeper Jonas Urbig had deflected a deflected cross from Kevin Schumacher. Aygün Yildirim almost scored the goal, but his shot just missed (90+3).
