Divock Origi had his most successful time at Liverpool FC. Now he is ending his career at the age of 31.
The former Wolfsburg Divock Origi has announced the end of his professional career. As the 31-year-old announced on social media on Monday, his “purpose in the game as a player had been fulfilled.” In addition to 36 games for VfL Wolfsburg, Origi played 175 games for Liverpool FC, where he celebrated his greatest successes.
“I lived out my childhood dream of playing on the biggest stages and winning the biggest trophies. I am grateful to God for all of it,” the striker wrote. Origi celebrated his greatest successes with the “Reds”. Between 2014 and 2022 he played 175 games for Liverpool and won the Champions League, the Cup and the Super Cup with the club, among others.
In 2019, he scored the decisive goal in the semi-final second leg of the premier class when Liverpool beat FC Barcelona 4-0 and overturned a three-goal deficit. He scored again in the final and secured the European Cup for the team led by then team manager Jürgen Klopp.
In addition to Liverpool, Origi also played for VfL Wolfsburg. In the 2017/18 season he was loaned there and played 36 games. He had previously played for OSC Lille in 2014/15. After his departure from Liverpool in 2022, he worked at Nottingham Forest, AC Milan and most recently at their second team Milan Futuro. He played 32 times for the Belgian national team.
