2nd league: Arminia on the up, SCP keeps up, FCM sovereign

FCM sovereign

Under the new coach Uwe Koschinat, Arminia Bielefeld has set the next example in the relegation battle of the 2nd Bundesliga. East Westphalia won 3-2 (2-1) at Holstein Kiel on Sunday. It was the second win in Bielefeld’s third game under Daniel Scherning’s successor. The Kielers have been waiting for a win in their own stadium for four games. Frederik Jäkel (11th), Robin Hack (29th) and Masaya Okugawa (55th) scored for Arminia. The goals from Steven Skrzybski (32nd) and Hólmbert Áron Friðjónsson (67th) were not enough for Kiel. Due to the success, the East Westphalia climbed to 14th place in the table, but are only two points away from the relegation rank. Holstein slipped to tenth place.

Bielefeld got into the game well and quickly took a well-deserved lead with jaekels and hacks. The Kielers caught themselves. After connecting with Skrzybski’s twelfth goal of the season, the hosts pushed for an equalizer. The game became more open. Even after the change, the action continued in front of 12,476 spectators. Ex-Kieler Okugawa increased after a strong solo for the guests. 40 seconds after coming on, Friðjónsson scored again for Holsten. In the final phase, the Kielers pressed again. Bielefeld successfully countered this.

At Schwartz premiere: Hansa is defeated at FCM

Even the new coach Alois Schwartz hasn’t stopped FC Hansa Rostock’s descent. On Sunday, the Baltic Sea townspeople lost the important East duel at 1. FC Magdeburg 0:3 (0:1). Amara Condé put the hosts ahead in front of 26,480 spectators after 29 minutes. Jason Ceka (60th) increased and made the victory perfect in the 70th minute. Rostock’s top scorer John Verhoek (57th) saw the yellow-red card after two overly motivated fouls. Magdeburg is now five points clear of the first place in the relegation zone, while Rostock remains penultimate.

Magdeburg had more of the game from the start, but Hansa initially held back well. But after 15 minutes the hosts increased the pressure and had two good chances to score through Baris Atik (17th/19th). Rostock was no longer able to gain access, swam in defense and consequently conceded the goal. Ryan Malone had deflected Condé’s shot into goalkeeper Markus Kolke. Even after that, little came from the guests. That didn’t change even after the change of sides. For a relegation candidate, Hansa struggled too little against the impending defeat, which was sealed after Ceka’s dismissal and brace. A shot from the post by Kai Pröger (65th) didn’t change that.
