The second division soccer team SSV Jahn Regensburg is surprisingly separating after less than six months from sports director Tobias Werner. The Upper Palatinate are about to be relegated to league three and should already have a successor in mind.

Shortly before the threat of relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga, SSV Jahn Regensburg parted ways with its sports director Tobias Werner after less than six months. This was announced by the penultimate table on Tuesday. The Regensburg reacted to the almost certain fall into the 3rd league. Before the last matchday, Jahn is three points behind the relegation place occupied by Arminia Bielefeld. In addition, the goal difference is 15 goals worse.

“A comprehensive analysis of the current season and in particular the second half of the season has shown that the desired developments in the sporting area – regardless of the question of staying up – have fallen noticeably short of expectations,” said Regensburg CEO Hans Rothammer, on whose appointment Werner was dismissed became.

Beierlorzer should follow – 20 players could go

According to BR information, there are internal indications that Werner’s successor has already been found: Middle Franconian Achim Beierlorzer is said to follow him. Beierlorzer was a coach in the cathedral city for two years after the promotion to the second division in 2017 – and Jahn was very successful at the time.

The 37-year-old Nuremberg and Augsburg ex-professional Werner took office on December 1, 2022 with the Upper Palatinate. “Against the background of the major upheaval that is now imminent, we consider a personnel realignment to be necessary in order to be able to tackle this important phase with the necessary structures and dynamics,” Rothammer explained the separation. The club could have 20 players who are either on loan or whose contracts are expiring.
