24-hour strike on the railway starts: you will be inconvenienced here | Interior

A 24-hour strike started on the Belgian rail network on Monday evening at 10 p.m. As a result, only a quarter of the trains will run on Tuesday, the NMBS railway company reports. The nuisance will be particularly great in the provinces of Namur and Luxembourg. Trade union actions will also take place on Wednesday and Thursday, but NMBS will communicate about this later.

LOOK. Bart Crols of the NMBS explains how great the nuisance for train passengers will be:

The union front at the railways will hold a new rail strike on Tuesday. ACOD Spoor, ACV Transcom and VSOA Spoor want to denounce the lack of investments at NMBS and Infrabel in this way. The 24-hour strike actually started on Monday evening at 10 p.m.

NMBS has developed an alternative train service based on the number of employees not participating in the strike. In total, only a quarter of the trains run. Virtually all P-trains (peak hour trains) will be cancelled. Furthermore, two out of five IC trains run, i.e. the trains between the major cities. In addition, one in four also runs L-trains and suburban S-trains.

Nuisance greatest in Wallonia

The nuisance will be greatest in Wallonia. There are no trains in most of the provinces of Namur and Luxembourg and in part of Walloon Brabant. According to NMBS, this is because insufficient staff is available at the Infrabel signal box in Namur, which is necessary to ensure that train traffic runs safely.

NMBS advises travelers to prepare well for their train journey. The details of the timetable can be consulted from this morning via the online journey planner of NMBS, via the app or website.

More union actions will take place at the Belgian railways next week. There are still separate strikes by train drivers’ union ASTB on Wednesday 30 November and Thursday 1 December. An alternative timetable will also be worked out for this, which will be communicated by the NMBS two days in advance – so on today and tomorrow.
