In a close all-around final, Angelina Melnikova won gold at the 2025 World Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta. Karina Schönmaier came in 19th place as the best German.

Karina Schönmaier from Chemnitz experienced disappointment with 19th place in the all-around final of the World Gymnastics Championships. The 20-year-old was unable to confirm her strong sixth place from the qualification and fell short of expectations in the final battle of the best 24 gymnasts. The DTB team is still waiting for its first top 10 placement. Schönmaier on Friday (from 9:00 a.m. in the live stream on SWR Sport) another chance for a medal in the vault final. The second German gymnast in the all-around final, Silja Stöhr from Mannheim, took 21st place on Thursday.

In the absence of stars Simone Biles (USA) and Rebeca Andrade (Brazil), the 2021 all-around world champion Angelina Melnikova (neutral athlete) secured the gold medal. Silver went to Leanne Wong (USA), bronze to Zhang Qingying (China).

Schönmaier faulty, Stöhr solid

In her flagship discipline, the jump, double European champion Schönmaier made a small mistake right at the beginning: when landing, she stepped out of the landing zone and was therefore unable to build on her strong qualification performance. She showed a concentrated routine on the uneven bars and meanwhile worked her way up to fifth place. However, uncertainties crept in again on the balance beam and floor, so that the scores fell well short of those in the qualification. The 17-year-old Stöhr presented a solid competition, but was also unable to maintain her 17th place in the qualification.

In the men’s all-around final, Timo Eder had already finished 19th on Wednesday. Apart from Schönmaier, the apparatus finals will take place without German participation.
