There was a serious accident during the warm-up lap at the Moto3 race in Malaysia. One pilot suffered life-threatening injuries.
A serious accident overshadowed the Moto3 race in Malaysia: The Swiss Noah Dettwiler apparently suffered life-threatening injuries in a collision before the start. His father Andy Dettwiler told the Swiss newspaper “Blick” that they had “fought for his life.”
According to the report, the 20-year-old suffered “multiple cardiac arrests” and lost a lot of blood. His condition is currently stable. But it is “much too early” to give the all-clear. The newspaper also writes that Dettwiler suffered injuries to his spleen and lungs, as well as an open broken leg. The organizer initially did not comment on the Swiss man’s health.
The accident occurred on the warm-up lap: The new world champion Jose Antonio Rueda from Spain hit the rear of Dettwiler’s machine at high speed. The Swiss was thrown from the motorcycle by the force of the impact.
Rueda was also injured and, according to MotoGP, suffered a fractured hand and several bruises. The Moto3 race started with a delay and was significantly shortened. The subsequent races in Moto2 and MotoGP took place as planned.
MotoGP winner Alex Márquez from Spain said after his triumph that his “thoughts and prayers” were with Noah Dettwiler and Jose Antonio Rueda.
