Guns N’Roses’ “November Rain” is the first music video for a ’90s rock song to break two billion views on YouTube. The ballad can be found on the album Use Your Illusion I, released in 1991, and the music video was released in 1992.

In 2018, the 9-minute, 16-second video became the first from the pre-YouTube era (the platform was only founded in 2005) to reach 1 billion views on the platform.

The clip sees Axl Rose and his then girlfriend, actress Stephanie Seymour, at a very dramatic wedding while bachelor Slash bangs the strings in front of the church. It was directed by Andy Morahan, who was also responsible for videos by the Pet Shop Boys, such as “West End Girls”, Michael Jackson’s “Give In to Me” and Paul McCartney’s “Hope of Deliverance”. With a budget of $1.5 million, it remains one of the most expensive music videos of all time. It’s also the most viewed hard rock song on YouTube. Behind Guns N’Roses is Linkin Park’s “Numb” with more than 1.9 billion views.
