The fact that the club ceased to exist less than two years later does mean something to him. Berck-Beelenkamp quits professional football and chooses amateur club ARC in Alphen aan de Rijn. In 2018 he told NH Sport: “I experienced the bankruptcy of Haarlem. After that I actually consciously chose to take a kind of rest for two years.”
Timothy van der Meulen (34). Just like Padt, Van der Meulen is a brand new loanee from Ajax who is making his professional debut at Haarlem. With Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen in front of him, the 19-year-old defender has no prospect of playing minutes at Ajax. He is talented. Van der Meulen is a basic force at the European Championship final round for players under 17, but his career does not get off the ground. Not at De Graafschap, not at Dundee United and not at Almere City FC. Only in the second team of Bayern Munich, which is trained by Andries Jonker, does he have a good season. The defender even becomes the club’s top scorer.
Years later, Van der Meulen told Leidsch Dagblad that his professional debut was illustrative of his entire career. “Whenever something good comes, something bad must follow.” He is currently playing football for the amateurs of FC Lisse and he earns his money as a mover.
