The Maifeld Derby is taking place for the 12th time this weekend. The three-day pop culture and music festival has been a fixture on Mannheim’s Maimarkt grounds since 2011. This year it starts on Friday, June 16th. At 3:00 p.m. the gates open to the open air, which is held on the grounds of the MVV Reitstadion.
For three days there will be concerts by numerous German and international artists on four stages (palace tent, open air, hut tent, parcours d’amour). Interpol from New York and the French band Phoenix are scheduled as headliners in 2023.
The Maifeld Derby stands for a diverse, varied line-up where music lovers of all genres get their money’s worth. From punk, dream pop to indie rock and spherical electronic sounds, everything is included.
At the Maifeld Derbys in the past, bands and musicians from Germany such as Moderat, Bilderbuch, Kettcar, Drangsal, Von Wegen Lisbeth and Tocotronic were at the start. But international acts such as The Streets, Editors and The Wombats also performed as main acts at the event with a capacity of around 5,000 visitors.

Important: Camping and RV tickets allow access to the camping area and RV parking lot, not to the festival site. The mobile home ticket is only valid for your own vehicle. A camping ticket is also required per person.

Arrival by public transport:
The ticket to the Maifeld Derby entitles you to free travel in the entire VRN area. With the combination ticket you can travel on the printed event days until 12 noon on the following day with all buses, trams and approved trains (DB: RE, RB and S-Bahn, each in 2nd class) in the Rhein-Neckar transport association ( VRN) drive.
If you are arriving from Mannheim main station, it is best to use tram line 5 & bus 50 (direction Heidelberg from Mannheim main station to the Neuostheim stop, change to bus line 50 in the direction of Neckerau West to the Maimarkt stop, directly in front of the event site), tram line 6 (direction Neuhermsheim/SAP Arena). S-Bahn station from Tattersall stop – near Mannheim main station – to Maimarkt stop) or the S-Bahn line S1 (direction Osterburken, S2 direction Mosbach, S4 direction Karlsruhe from Mannheim main station to Arena/Maimarkt (DB), with 18 minutes walk) .
For the return trip to Mannheim in the evening and at night, bus line 50 can also be used until midnight. In addition, there are special trips on line E from the Maimarkt stop to Mannheim main station from Friday to Saturday.
Arriving by car or mobile home:
The site has its own exit (Maimarkt site) just before the Mannheimer Kreuz, directly on the A6 / A656. From there it is only two minutes to the site.
Sufficient parking spaces are available opposite the festival site. Only parking spaces P6 to P8 are intended for festival visitors.
Due to the Federal Horticultural Show in Mannheim, some of the park operators have raised the prices to 9.50 euros. The organizers therefore recommend using the integrated public transport ticket.
All visitors who have to go to the campsite and mobile home parking lot can enter through Gate 31/32. The wristbands and mobile home badges are awarded there. Then we continue around the site to the campsite.
Campers with cars can unload their belongings there and then continue to the public parking lots opposite the Maimarktgelände. Motorhomes simply drive on to the entrance to the motorhome parking lot and are directed to the correct parking spaces there.
Weather at the 12th Maifeld Derby:
The Maifeld Derby 2023 will definitely be hot. 27 degrees and lots of sun can be expected right at the start of the festival. The humidity is 27 percent, but decreases towards the evening. Temperatures drop to 19 degrees at night.
On Saturday, June 17, temperatures will rise to 29 degrees around midday and up to 31 degrees in the evening. There is a light breeze. At night it gets pleasantly warm with 22 degrees.
Sunday morning starts with temperatures around 18 degrees, which crack the 30 degree mark by noon. The humidity is 24 percent. Still, rain is not to be expected. The evening and last day of the festival can be ended at a pleasant 23 degrees.
