After a four-year Corona break, the Berlin fire brigade showed again on Sunday what they are capable of.
The event used to take place as an open day around the Charlottenburg-Nord fire station. Everything got bigger this year.
Around 12,000 visitors came to the event day on the site of the former Tegel Airport around the large Lufthansa hangar. The motto: “Touch and participate”.

Sitting behind the wheel of a fire truck, seeing a helicopter up close. And watch the rescuers from the fire brigade cut open a car and save an injured person.
Ideally, this should take less than 20 minutes, and it shouldn’t take more than an hour from the alarm being raised to arriving at the hospital. The demonstrations: exciting for young and old.

The first highlight came at 10:30 a.m. Several young firefighters were ceremoniously sworn in. And the Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (50, CDU) also stopped by Tegel in the afternoon.
Papa Mario Eylers (50) and son Leon (10) came all the way from Steglitz. Both are interested in technology. “If I don’t become an astronaut, then maybe a firefighter,” says the junior.

And Marc-Étienne (5) from Haselhorst is also enthusiastic. His great role model: series hero Fireman Sam from the children’s series of the same name.
In addition to the fire brigade, the THW, Red Cross and Federal Police also presented themselves.
