Things are currently not going well at 1. FC Saarbrücken. The club acts – and separates from the coach. The successor has already been chosen and knows the Saarland people very well.
1. FC Saarbrücken is drawing conclusions from the ongoing sporting decline: The third division team has separated from coach Alois Schwartz – “by mutual agreement,” as the club announced on Tuesday. After eight league games without a win, sports director Jürgen Luginger is temporarily taking over the team until the winter break.
The 57-year-old is no stranger to the Saarlanders. Between 2010 and 2014 he was on the sidelines as head coach. “It is natural for me to take responsibility in this phase,” said Luginger in the club statement. “Together with the team, we will do everything we can to create stability and go into the last games before the winter break successfully.”
In addition to Schwartz, assistant coach Dimitrios Moutas also has to leave the club. Luginger will be supported at the FCS in the future by Karsten Specht, the head of the youth performance center.
After a strong start with second place after seven match days, Saarbrücken recently slipped to twelfth place. The 2-0 loss at 1860 Munich on Sunday was the fourth defeat in the last five games.
Schwartz only took over the position at the end of April. Under his leadership, the club reached third place and thus relegation last season, but failed there at Eintracht Braunschweig.
